The main interest of de Andrés’ work is the evolution of the concept of leisure and the meaning of travel throughout history, from the first settlers to tour operators. De Andrés pays special attention to the eighteenth century when the sea became the new object of desire, and modern tourist travel began to take shape. Some time later, some governments accepted the demands of the right to paid vacations for the working class. It is in response to these phenomena that specific forms of architecture and infrastructure, such as spas and cruise ships, were developed. These are key scenarios for the artist who, through film, sculpture, or graphic work, shapes journeys through time and through different waters, connecting different historical facts to reflect on the model of tourist consumption, the concept of travel, and our relationship with what we call landscape.
De Andrés graduated in Fine Arts at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2009), where she also completed a Master’s degree in Artistic Research and Production (2010). She has been an artist-in-residence at the Escuela FLORA Ars+Natura in Bogotá (AC/E Artist-in-Residence Program 2016), Beta Local’s The Harbor program in San Juan de Puerto Rico (2017), the Visual Artists program at the Centro de Residencias Matadero Madrid (2019), and the Academia de España in Rome (2021), among others.
Among the grants and awards she has received are the Generaciones Award from the Montemadrid Foundation (2013), Circuitos de Artes Plásticas (2012), the Ciutat de Palma Award (2015), the DKV-Es Baluard Audiovisual Creation Grants (2018), and the Audiovisual Creation Grants from the Visiona Program of the Diputación de Huesca (2019). Her most recent solo exhibitions have taken place at Centro de Arte Párraga de Murcia (2024), the Patio Herreriano Museum in Valladolid (2019), and Espai 13 of the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona (2017/18). De Andrés’ work has also been shown in several group exhibitions in centers and institutions such as Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos de Santiago de Chile, CCE de Montevideo, MuHKA Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp, Casa Encendida in Madrid, Trienal de Frestas in Sorocaba, Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art in Palma de Mallorca, Cultural Center of Spain in Montevideo, Copperfield Gallery in London, or IFA Galerie in Berlin.
